Floating 90-ton colossus
It's long been known that "time = money." But the fact that even large orders in production are a matter of hours presents a particular challenge. The Ebner company from Eiterfeld is building a plant for the K+S Hattorf plant. Starting in 2018, this plant will reduce saline wastewater by 1.5 million cubic meters annually and also recover additional valuable materials for fertilizer production.
Two already completed heat exchangers, each 18 m long, 3.90 m in diameter, and weighing 90 tons, had to be removed from the production hall as quickly as possible to free up production space for additional components. Due to the tight deadlines, hours counted to avoid jeopardizing our customer's schedule. Since the overhead cranes didn't have the capacity to load the components into the building, we decided to transport the two heat exchangers out of the hall lying on their roller stands, load them onto our low-loader using two mobile cranes, and then temporarily store them outside.

For this purpose, thin sheets of metal were first laid and glued at the joints, then air cushions were placed beneath the roller supports. And then the 90-ton monsters floated out of the hall. The required air volume of 21 m3 per minute at a pressure of 12 bar was supplied by two large mobile compressors.
The total operation time was only 12 hours, whereby our customer's production was only minimally affected and the construction of the next heat exchangers could begin even earlier than planned.
